There are so many things I love about attending bridal shows. I love meeting newly engaged couples and hearing about their plans and personal style. I love the excitement and energy of the day. And I also really love meeting other wedding professionals.

This month, while attending The Best Wedding Showcase at the Host Resort in Lancaster, I had the opportunity to meet a lot of new faces behind a lot of interesting wedding businesses.

Theatrical Wedding at the Fulton

The Historic Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, (which is typically not available for weddings) that is, unless you are the Technical Director there, was the site of this fun very theatrical wedding. Samaria and Bill are not only a really cute couple, but they are really good friends of mine and I was so happy when they asked me to photograph their wedding.

It was a very warm and sticky August day which was a good reason to have the wedding and reception all inside the theater. The stars of this wedding were getting ready in their dressing rooms when I arrived. After everyone was ready and things were set, the couple had decided on a First Look before the wedding, and how else could I make it dramatic to match the wedding but to bring the bride down the beautiful stairs. Sounds easy right? Unfortunately about a month and a half before this day, the bride actually broke her foot and unfortunately it wasn’t healing correctly. She was very up for doing the stairs anyway, and we just made sure she took her time.

After a few pictures with them and family, we got everyone tucked away before the guests arrived and were ushered to their seats in the theater. With a flip of the curtain the bride was brought out from backstage in a very grand fashion. It was dramatic and fun, in this ceremony filled with laughs. A short walk to the open, 2 story lobby held the cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception. It was a lot of fun being able to make my way into the action or photograph from above in the balcony area. As you’ll see, things were so much fun that people couldn’t contain themselves and ended up dancing in nontraditional dancing areas. It was a great time and I was so happy to be a part of capturing such a wonderful wedding. Thanks Samaria and Bill!

Down by the Susquehanna

Julie and Shaun’s wedding along the river was held at Shank’s Mare on York side of the Susquehanna River. With some beautiful colors, details and a beautiful ceremony that seemed magical along the waterfront, this wedding was spectacular and fun at the same time. Enjoy the photos and don’t be too jealous that they are in shorts while it’s now cold. It was steamy and hot that day!

Mulberry Art(ist) Wedding

This wedding at the Mulberry Art Studio was one of the most fun weddings I’ve ever photographed. Funny because I feel like I’ve said that a lot this year. But, Juleann and Joe are just a blast! Both artists who know, not only how to create beautiful details, but also how to throw a great party!

We started out the day photographing them at the Marriott in downtown Lancaster, PA. After a little First Look at the Marriott, we walked through the downtown area stopping at Central Market, Steinman Park, Prince St. Cafe and a few other locations on the 4 block walk up to Mulberry Art Studio. A few jumps in the alleyway and it was time to get this wedding started!

The wedding was filled with details, most of which Juleann, from wearableJules, created, including her necklace their rings, some peeps for the guys to wear, all the decorations in the wedding and reception along with the topper for the cake. And, speaking of the cake, Juleann and Joe have a little thing for post it notes that they write to each other and decided to incorporate that fun part of their relationship into their wedding cake. It not only made for something intimate to share with their guests but also a great design for the cake. The reception was a blast and everyone had way too much fun.

Jen & Dan are such a cute couple that live in the DC area. Although Jen is from Akron in Lancaster County and that’s where they were married. It was a beautiful ceremony on a slight warm and humid July day. The Inn at Leola Village was a beautiful backdrop for this couple. Congrats to you both!

Joelene & Dan (or should I just say Joelene) created an absolutely stunning wedding at the Sovereign Performing Arts Center in Reading. Being a wedding coordinator herself, Joelene planned out an amazing wedding with details that were just beautiful, fun and very old Hollywood. I started out with my friend Matt from Krotzer Photography at the hotel where the girls and guys were getting ready. Let me just say that a lot of jokes were told to keep tears from flowing in the girls room. Just ask Joelene about bananas and see if she starts laughing. After a while Matt made his way down to photograph the guys and I stayed back with the girls. We eventually made our way down to the lobby for a few photos before heading off to the Sovereign Performing Arts Center to get the ceremony going.

The ceremony was beautifully laid out with nice floral and fabric touches all over the place. After a wonderful and touching ceremony we made our way to the theatre area where we were able to take some great photos of the wedding party along with some photos of the couple by themselves. Then it was outside for a few quick photos before getting Joelene & Dan up to be introduced into the reception.

The reception was spectacular! With loads of old Hollywood details on the tables, a slideshow of the couple’s life, a popcorn bar, Hollywood movie star cut outs, flowers and so much more to keep people entertained and really show off the beautiful structure of the old building. After some touching and very funny speeches, everyone ate a delicious dinner. After dinner there was some dancing along with a garter and bouquet toss that was interrupted by a couple of unexpected “girls” to the floor for the bouquet toss. See the photos below because words simply can’t describe what happened. After that it was time for getting down and partying. Thanks to some great props the night turned into a blast and everyone just had more fun than you can imagine.

Dream a Dream…wedding

The Moondancer Winery was the backdrop for Amy & Chad’s wedding which was not only captured by me, but video taped by the TV show Dream Weddings of which Miville Photography is part of the Dream Team. I had my own mini team of Jana from J. Rostron Photography and Joel from Joel Bischoff Photography along to help create some beautiful and memorable photos. We met up with the Dream Weddings crew and mapped out a plan. It was nice because I knew the video guy Derek and it was easy working with him. We seemed to be on the same page the whole time and made it easy on couple the whole day.

We started out when Chad arrived in his vintage Austin-Healey 3000 MK II that he restored. After a few minutes, Amy showed up with her girls and we switched gears, photographing her getting ready, along with some details of her dress. Then it was time for one of my new favorite wedding traditions, the “First Look” of the couple. We had Amy walk down through the patio area of the winery where Chad awaited his bride at the bottom of the steps. Turning around to see his beautiful bride made for some great reactions. Then it was time for their little pup to join the fun. Needless to say, he looked adorable in his little puppy tux, but he only stayed for a little while before guests started arriving. After some family pictures in front of the winery, we photographed the wedding party in front of one of the vineyards and then took the couple deeper into the vineyards. We had a great time walking the rows and ended up photographing the rings and shoes amidst the grape vines.

The wedding was simple and beautiful. With the vineyards and Susquehanna river as the background, guests were treated to a beautiful ceremony before being released to the patio and winery area for the cocktail hour. After a little mingling, it was time for Roger from Top Hat Entertainment DJ’s to take the reigns, and he did a great job keeping the night moving and keeping people on the dance floor the entire night.
