University Park in State College was the scene for Amanda & James’ engagement session. What better place for a couple who love the Nittany Lions almost as much as I do. We drove up together and spent quite a bit of time walking around and hitting all the most recognizable locations in Penn State including the Nittany Lion Shrine, had some ice cream at The Berkey Creamery, The Hub, Old Main, stopped at the The Corner Room for lunch, Beaver Stadium and The Arboretum at PSU. We also stopped along the way at some random locations which just showed off the town. It’s one of my favorite places to go and it was great to be there with this awesome couple! I can’t wait for your wedding this year guys.

I met up with my friends Samaria & Bill at Steinman Park at the Pressroom in downtown Lancaster for their engagement photos. It’s always great to photograph friends, especially when they are so much fun! At the moment Samaria is battling a broken foot and trying to get it healed before their wedding this coming August. But she was a trooper through the heat and we joked around a good bit to keep her spirits up. Keeping her foot in mind I suggested that we keep it simple and just stay within the Steinman Park area. It’s beautiful and you don’t really need to go very far to get some great shots. Oh, and the high trees keep it a lot cooler on a sunny humid day.

Wine Time

Nissley Vineyards near Marietta, PA was the backdrop we used for Laura & John’s Get To Know You engagement session. They are wine drinkers after my own heart that suggested the location of which I’ve been to, but never done a photography session. After walking down along the creek that runs through Nissley, we walked around the grounds, even finding a lime kiln back in the woods. We then finished up on the road out with a quick stop in the vineyards. It was a very warm, humid day and we all were wishing that they would have been open so we could have had a nice cold glass of wine. It was a fun time and they are a great looking couple.

It’s great to live so close to Washington DC, making it easy to drop down for a day and get some engagement photos in for Jen and Dan. Traffic was a bit crazy on a Friday in our nations capitol, but we managed to get together on this windy day. Meeting at the Jefferson Memorial, we made our way most of the way around the Tidal Basin. Stopping here and there using the Washington Monument as a backdrop now and again. It’s such a simple, yet beautiful location to take photos.

After spending a little time in DC we made our way out to their home for a few photos with their critters. They have 3 really cute dogs that we took for a little walk through the fallen flower petals. It was a beautiful session and I can’t wait for the wedding!

Chillin’ in the ‘Burg

On a cold winter day in February, I met up with Maura and Chris on the West Shore of Harrisburg. We met at a little park I discovered some time back and was just looking for an excuse to use. After walking around the cold, snowy and icy park we drove to downtown Harrisburg for some city pics. It just happened that I realized the Susquehanna river was frozen solid when we walked down towards it. Of course, I am always looking to have my couples do something different and unexpected when I come across something fun. So, I tested out the ice first before having them step out onto the block solid river. While we were sitting on the ice for a few pics we heard a really loud bang and immediately scattered off the ice. While I had expensive equipment to get off the ice, you would think Chris would have gotten Maura to safety as quick as possible, but instead, he almost pushed her away before getting himself to safety. Nice job Chris, at least we did all manage to get off the ice safely.

Favorite engagement photos from 2010

Over the next week or two I’m going to post a few of my favorites from a couple of categories. First up are some of my favorite of my engagement photos. I must say that 2010 has really let me open up my creativity, mainly because I’ve had some couples who really trusted me and let me do and try some new and crazy stuff. That trust feels great and I really can’t thank them enough. It’s given me the opportunity to shine with my work and given them some spectacular images to show their friends and family. I’m looking forward to the upcoming year and know that I’ve got some couples in 2011 that are in for some real fun when we get to their session. I may give a little background on a few of them along the way. So, sit back and enjoy.

I started out the year with Amy and Jeff. They live in Lebanon so we met up in Mt. Gretna and walked around through the town a bit. Finally coming upon a playground which gave us a chance to play. We had so much fun in, on and around some of the equipment. I think these photos really showed just how much fun we had.

In May I went to Philadelphia to take some pictures of Lizzie & Bill in Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies and throughout the city of Philadelphia. It was probably my personal favorite session of the year only because I’ve known them for so long. They are great friends and I am so happy for them.

This Harrisburg session was great with Erin & Drazan since they had no problem getting up early before it got disgustingly hot and humid. We had a great time walking around the city and even made out way over to City Island for a couple of pics. They are just a really fun couple.

I made a little trip up to Ready for a session at the Pagoda with Rachel and Rob. A low key couple who had fun with it and allowed me to get some classic looking images.

What can I say about Joelene and Dan? Joelene had some great ideas and visions, not only for her wedding but also for their engagement session. She wanted to do a Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio theme to go with their classic wedding they are planning. But then we had the chance to do some more normal portraits just walking around Lancaster city.

Gettysburg with Stacy and Paul was a blast. Paul is just a ham and we had a great time starting out on Little Round Top and making our way into town and finishing up at one of the historic covered bridges.

Finally, Kristen & Mark left me speechless with a fun walk through New Hope, PA. With a start at the beautiful train station to a walk through town, they are a beautiful and fun couple who gave me all their trust to get some beautiful images.

New Hope Engagement Session

I met up in New Hope, just north of Philadelphia, at the train station with Kristen & Mark for their engagement photos. This was a fun couple up for anything, including getting in, on and around old and dirty trains. They were troopers and gave themselves up to my camera which as you’ll see really allows me to capture some amazing photos. Kristen was a real trooper, getting up on an old rusting locomotive in high heels. Thanks Kristen! As we were walking out of the train station on the way into town a train was getting ready to leave. It was a big steam locomotive and just looked really cool. So, I stopped them next to a light post and as I did the train started moving forward, spewing smoke and steam out all across the platform we were on. It came right past us and the steam just engulfed the couple, wrapping them with a soft cloud. It was amazing.

After that, we went downtown to the metal bridge that connects over to Jersey. Then it was a little walk through downtown of New Hope stopping in parks and at shops along the way. We finished up under a small bridge that just had some great lines and interesting details going on. It was a blast and I couldn’t be more happy with how the photos came out.

Marilyn, Joe & some donuts!

I met in downtown Lancaster with Joelene, from In Your Shoes Event Design, and her fiancé Dan for their engagement photos. Joelene had told me about this fun idea to dress up like Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio to keep with the 50′s Hollywood theme they are planning on for their wedding. So, we started out in front of the Fulton Opera Theatre, we then walked up to the new Marriott Convention Center to utilize the great architecture.

It was a little cloudy and starting to rain. Not to mention that things were running a little late. So, we decided to come back a week later and get some portraits of the couple in some street clothes. So, we met up at my office in the Candy Factory and walked the streets of Lancaster. We were on our way back to the Candy Factory when we were passing the Fractured Prune donut shop. They mentioned they were going to stop there after we were done, so I said, “why not stop now?” So, we did, and I got some really fun photos of them having a little snack during the shoot. We finished up with a couple of shots in the Candy Factory behind some glass doors. It has been a great time with these two and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they come up with for their wedding next year.

Laura & Dan’s E-Session

I met in downtown York with Laura & Dan for their Get To Know You Session. The plan for the evening was to walk around downtown York and perhaps take in a little baseball. We started out in the stockyard type area, walking around some brick buildings before heading over to the Revolution Stadium to take in a little baseball. We even found “DownTown” the York Revolution mascot and got a picture with him. We took a little break while we were there to watch a little baseball and get a drink. After a few innings we took off and headed back through the town for a few more pictures before finishing up with a little drink at the White Rose B&G. It was a great time and they are such a cute couple.

Chickie’s Fun

I met up at Chickie’s Rock Park in Lancaster County for a few engagement photos for Ashleen and Brian. I’ll be photographing their wedding in November and wanted to get with them to have some fun and create some beautiful pics of them before the big day. The great thing about Chickie’s Rock Park is that there are so many little locations and a few big sweeping ones. It overlooks the Susquehanna river and is great for some sweeping views. We had a great time just walking around the park and I ended up climbing a tree with a giant hornets nest. Luckily they didn’t mind me hanging out in their tree. It was fun, thanks for such a great time guys.
